How to notify LXDE that the background image has changed ?

This is what you do:

edit the file:

~/.config/lxsession/LXDE/autostart

change the line that reads

@pcmanfm --desktop --profile lxde

to

@pcmanfm --d --profile lxde

or comment it or remove it completely. Instead add a line for xplanet:

@xplanet --origin sun --transparency
