Fedora Update Notification
FEDORA-2009-9506
2009-09-11 22:40:07
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Name : fail2ban
Product : Fedora 11
Version : 0.8.4
Release : 23.fc11
URL : http://fail2ban.sourceforge.net/
Summary : Ban IPs that make too many password failures
Description :
Fail2ban scans log files like /var/log/pwdfail or
/var/log/apache/error_log and bans IP that makes too many password
failures. It updates firewall rules to reject the IP address.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Information:

This update redirects fail2ban's log to syslog. This also fixes and issue with
logrotate purging banned clients. fail2ban also checks inodes instead of just
the first line of a logfile. 0.8.4 is the first fail2ban release to work with
Python 2.6 (previous versions would fail with the "unexpected communication
problem" error message). Additionally, the logging subsystem is now shutdown
when it really is not needed anymore, which fixes the "cannot release un-
acquired lock" issue. The maxretry/findtime rate problem has been fixed.
This updates also carries some new features: * A fail2ban-client command to
manually ban a specific IP for a certain jail (buanzo). * Two new filters:
lighttpd-fastcgi and php-url-fopen (buanzo). * Added actions to report abuse to
ISP, DShield and myNetWatchman. * A Nagios script to help you integrate
fail2ban with Nagios. .
