Update Information:

OpenJDK8 is no longer the automatic default for 'java' (OpenJDK7 is). It will not be the default until (at least) a final version is released upstream.

You can make it the default for 'java' manually using 'alternatives --config java'.

su -c 'yum update java-1.8.0-openjdk' at the command line.
