- Fix variable substitution causing variable assignment to abruptly terminate

- Prevent SIGINT from killing the parent process
- Document when functions are called
- Factor system-independent code
- Properly detect and handle circular dependencies
- Fix leak of socket_name and remove it from Windows builds
- Improve handling of SIGINT so that it disables option -k

- Reduce a bit the cost of escape_string
- Allow variable assignment in specific empty rules
- Allow several specific empty rules per target
- Add support for extending variables with VAR += ...
- Improve lexer with auto-skip and multi-character tokens
- Reduce amount of copying and character lookup when escaping strings
