VIM (VIsual editor iMproved) is an updated and improved version of the
vi editor.  Vi was the first real screen-based editor for UNIX, and is
still very popular.  VIM improves on vi by adding new features:

Update Information:

update to upstream patchlevel 16 with the following fixes:
- mkdir("foo/bar/", "p") gives an error message 
- creating a preview window on startup messes up the screen 
- new regexp engine can't be interrupted 
- too easy to write a file was not decrypted (yet)
- when closing a window fails ":bwipe" may hang 
- "vaB" while 'virtualedit' is set selects the wrong area 
- memory access error in Ruby syntax highlighting 
- pattern with two alternative look-behind matches doesn't match
- (after 7.4.006) crash with invalid argument to mkdir()
- cannot find out if "acl" and "xpm" features are supported
- various fixes for other OS's
