I guess it worked because the directory was somehow in the cache.
That's strange.

The following seems to work:

LD_PRELOAD=$(pwd)/libtcd/libtcd.so \
   ./tcd-utils/build_tide_db $TCD harmonics-*.txt &>harmonics_build.out
