Oh, I wasn't aware of the Java build problems!  That's annoying.

VTK is very useful and, in my experience over the past few months, your 
package works quite nicely for C++, python, and tcl development.  I fully 
support your idea of initially disabling Java.  It can always be added as 
an update once the build problems get sorted out.

And I'm wondering -- are there any Java coders/packagers following this 
bug who might like to look into the above build problems?
