Jim: yes, your problem should be solved by installing the firmware which,
conveniently enough, is now packaged as per this bug :-)

The package is built and ready for testing. The best thing for now is to install
the RPM directly from
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/F9/pending/alsa-firmware-1.0.16-1.fc9 .
You can also provide feedback via the above URL. There are a limited number of
people with hardware which requires firmware, so please do - your testing is
very valuable. It will also help to give us the confidence to push it into the
"real" Fedora 9 repository where everyone will then be able to install it via
yum. Thanks!
