So according to the newest blender.spec in devel (at least), we now have a
blender arch dependent plugins directory.
Once that said i'm not sure how it can be useful; specially if yafaray needs to
writte it's own configuration and content data.

for some discution with the blender maintainer.

On your side, did you have improved the yafaray package.
Is it possible to have some clean patches adopted upstream so you don't needs
the tweaks in %prep ?
