[Fedora-packaging] Appropriate values fot gitversion, gitdate from git clone?

Dear Packagers,

Wanting to build a new xorg-x11-drv-ati that will finally enable our
iMac 27-inch machines to work with free radeon drivers, I don't
understand how to select canonical values for gitversion and gitdate.
If there is any documentation describing such RPM packaging standards
relating to git, please point me at it.
