Bernie, hi:
For ppc computers the best current option is Ubuntu12.04 ppc
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/precise/release/ubuntu-12.04-desktop-powerpc.iso
After a lot of fooling around with my iBookG4 I settled there.
There should be a Fedora 18 ppc, but not yet.
