 this build also made possibly unexpected changes to default behaviour that
 were not mentioned in the tag request: namely removing the Show Desktop
 button from the panel and reducing the number of workspaces present by
 default from 4 to 2.

 Some concern was raised in the forums that this kind of behaviour change
 to the default desktop should not be introduced post-beta.
