 Has anybody looked at git-annex as a way to store references to source
 files, and fetch them down? https://git-annex.branchable.com/

 It would be more of a change than what's been talked about here, but it
 would remove bits of homegrown software, and would more natively fit with
 the rest of the git structure.  Just a thought, I'm not really going to be
 putting any work in here :)
