Coding Ruby using Fedora?

Starting to learn Ruby using LRTHW.

At a minimum what should be installed.
So coding\compiling could be done in a shell
"yum install ruby"
did not seem to pull in anything else.

rpm -qa | grep ruby
ruby-libs-1.8.7.357-1.fc16.x86_64
ruby-1.8.7.357-1.fc16.x86_64

yum search ruby, a prety long list.
But don't know what is needed as yet,
