That should be the goal.  I think what you ran into is a "bug" where
livecd-creator doesn't handle the arguments to group statements (@group
--optional).  In pungi I've tried to support every construct that
anaconda would support when doing the kickstart, I'll look at throwing a
patch over to livecd-creator to handle --optional, unless somebody beats
me to it.
