Thanks a mill! I got it running @ the weekend by loading both psmouse and 
evdev (I think it's called evdev - is the event module). making my synaptics 
touchpad work was a pain as the need for loading the event device s not at 
all intuitive (and psmouse does not have a dependency on event, or 
viceversa..)
