There are already several bugs for this in bugzilla, one of them:

has a workaround, briefly, it consists of:
 - apply scsi hotplug patch to kernel, you should now be able to boot
with 1394 enabled but it won't be detected
 - after bootup, "modprobe ohci1394", "rescan-scsi-bus.sh"
you should be able to see it then.
