how to use lilo?

When I try /sbin/lilo -v I get the following:

So not good: I look up man pages and try the following:

 /sbin/lilo -v -L
LILO version 22.5, Copyright (C) 1992-1998 Werner Almesberger

Released 04-Mar-2003 and compiled at 13:47:31 on Apr 10 2003.
