At Fedora, ALSA is in the QA package queue together with more than a
hundred other packages:

  alsa-lib
  https://bugzilla.fedora.us/show_bug.cgi?id=590

  alsa-utils
  https://bugzilla.fedora.us/show_bug.cgi?id=591

  alsa-oss
  https://bugzilla.fedora.us/show_bug.cgi?id=592

  alsa-driver
  https://bugzilla.fedora.us/show_bug.cgi?id=601

  alsa-tools
  https://bugzilla.fedora.us/show_bug.cgi?id=603

If you don't mind rebuilding src.rpms, feel free to test-drive the
packages and contribute your experience to above bugzilla reports. In
addition to the "rpm-build" package, Fedora uses a "fedora-rpmdevtools"
package which also pulls in additional dependencies for a common build
environment.

First a disclaimer: I'm neither up-to-date nor really informed about
any plans of a merger between Freshrpms and the repositories of a few
other individual packagers. There are rumours that it is being worked
on in order to increase compatibility between the repositories. Just
like some people advise against mixing packages from Fedora with
Freshrpms, you can read about problems between packages from Freshrpms
and other repositories and vice versa.

Some of the philosophical differences between Fedora and Freshrpms
become clear upon browsing the various documentation pages at
fedora.us. Most of the pages are still under development though, and
should not be considered final. Some of the Fedora development aims at
creating common package guidelines, package submission and QA
policies, helper tools or infrastructure (build servers, CVS server,
Bugzilla,...).

One of the rather obvious differences between Fedora and Freshrpms is,
that Fedora aims at being an open community project, whereas Freshrpms
is the work of a single individual, Matthias Saou (except for feedback
via mail/mail-lists or contributions which he accepts).

As one of the possibilities given by Fedora, its roughly documented
package submission and approval process allows you (and everyone
interested) to either contribute packages or gain trust with helping
to verify and approve packages in the queue. Of course, that's not
the only way how to contribute...
