Compile on Severn, runs on RH9, segfaults on Severn

No difference for any value of exec-shield.

In general, yes. However, for the very simple case I am using I think
all loaded libraries are either from Severn (as upgraded form Rawhide
or RHN) or compiled by myself over the last few days.
