Constant crashes

The two big components that can cause crashes tend to be the kernel and
XFree86. You sy yo've switched the kernel back so the next experiment I'd
do is to disable any 3D stuff in the /etc/X11/XF86Config in case its
something 3D related and screensavers triggering hangs.
