Compiling for CPU (was Re: Performance testing (pass 1))

Please forgive me if this has already been brought up or not, but did
someone else ever bring up the possibility of making a page in the
installation stage where you can choose your processor for it to install
the kernel with?  Say you have an Athlon, in the radio button list you
can click on 'Athlon' and it'll install it with the Athlon kernel rpm.

Otherwise I would just suggest they download the kernel RPM they know
they have the processor for it and do rpm -ivh < kernel.XXX.rpm >.  But
this could lead down to much more i suspect since I was not aware they
had processor specific Xfree86 rpm's?  So it could have a ripple effect
where people might end up saying, "oh so i choose an Athlon, so why not
make one to do the kernel install and the rest of the RPM's for specific
processors?".
