What driver are you using?

Check in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf (or /etc/X11/XF86Config if you're using 
FC1) that your video driver is set to 'nvidia' and not 'nv' or 'vesa'.

You should have a section that looks like this:
Section "Device"
         Identifier  "Videocard0"
         Driver      "nvidia"
         VendorName  "Videocard vendor"
         BoardName   "NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX (generic)"
