Installation of FCT2: GRUB interactive on 1st install and GRUBhangs on 2nd install

Just a wild thought: get yourself a bootable Dos floppy, boot it and do
fdisk /mbr to absolutely destroy any mbr stuff lurking around.  Then
reinstall grub with grub-install.
