I have heard about batstatt-aplet triggering a kernel bug on certain
hardware, killing the pc.

Having the CPU/mem monitor in the taskbar is also *very* usefull for
debugging :)

You can (probably) read CPU temp from /proc/acpi/processor/...

just use xterm and cat ;)
