syslog stopped logging on x86_64?

Unless something went funny this sounds bogus.  /var/log/lastlog
is a sparse file and 'ls -sh /var/log/lastlog' will show you how
much of a disk space it really takes.

There are ways to "fill it up" but this should happen only if you
worked on that.
