Failed attempt to "upgrade" to rawhide

I have:
Clean install of fc4 attempting to upgrade to rawhide.
Enabled development repo.
Yum update produced missing deps in XFree86
Added --exclude='xorg*' and --exclude='pango*' to the update command
New missing dep is cairo-devel.
Attempted a few more exclude masks to no avail (pango-devel, Gtk2-devel)

Do i need to wait for monolithic x to go the way of the dodo bird before
making this upgrade or is there a path i can't find? I'm going furthe
and further back in the mailing list but no luck yet. Help appreciated.
