problems with texlive, texlive not ready yet

Why did I try to remove tetex first?

Nope I tried to do it the way suggested by the wiki, since it did not work, I tried to remove it in hopes that texlive would overwrite tetex like the wiki says, but it did not happen.  Which way should I try to correct this issue?
