I'm even more confused. I presume "base" means "fedora."

I have these enabled, and no others:

[root at potoroo ~]# cat /etc/yum.repos.d/* | egrep '^\[|enabled=' | grep
-B1 enabled=1
[updates]
enabled=1
--
[fedora]
enabled=1
[root at potoroo ~]#

I've not seen any updates for some days, my last are these:
[root at potoroo ~]# rpm -qa kernel\*

kernel-2.6.23.1-23.fc8
kernel-2.6.23.1-31.fc8
kernel-devel-2.6.23.1-31.fc8
kernel-devel-2.6.23.1-23.fc8
kernel-xen-2.6.21-2950.fc8
[root at potoroo ~]# tail /var/log/yum.log-20071026

Oct 25 20:54:25 Erased: redhat-artwork
[root at potoroo ~]#

I am surprised there's no newer kernel-xen

I am sceptical that this is accurate, I thought that updates were being
made past the date of this package:
[root at potoroo ~]# cat /etc/fedora-release
Fedora release 8 (Werewolf)
[root at potoroo ~]#
