F8RC3 Fails Miserably on HP 8510w Laptop

i've seen (f7) kernels failing on hp machines ocasionally. after removing
rhgb quiet from kernel line on grub, the errors looked like it was acpi
linked. indeed adding acpi=off to the kernel line made those kernels boot
again.
