Does rawhide read floppy drives?

Yes, floppies should work
Try gnome-mount -d /dev/fd0
like
[olivares at localhost ~]$ gnome-mount -d /dev/fd0
If there is something wrong it will let you know,
cannot determine filesystem... or something like that.
