"They" may not supply /etc/modprobe.conf on an overoptimistic
assumption that it is not ever needed.  It does not mean that
it will be ignored if you will provide one - in particular with
some module options different from defaults.

Run, as root, 'mopdrobe -c | less' and you will see all what
amounts to a default /etc/modprobe.conf.
