Did you tried madwifi or  just the ath5k? I have 08:04.0 Ethernet
controller [0200]: Atheros Communications Inc. AR2413 802.11bg NIC
[168c:001a] (rev 01) which is a revision of AR5212 802.11bg and it
works fine here. (I think, though, madwifi works better with this
card, than ath5k)
