Fedora vs. Ubuntu Disk Partitioning

After installing Ubuntu Extended Edition and Rawhide on a 750 GB
drive (plus XP) I ended up with some 500 GB of free space that
could not be allocated to a new partition.  This does not seem to
happen if only Fedora is used to mess with diks partitions.
