Doesn't seem to be my issue; never had a problem rebooting. Just installed
lxde-x86_64-20100814.19.iso, upgraded all but polkit (kept
polkit-0.96-1.fc13.x86_64), and rebooted. USB drive mounts/unmounts
properly
