yum tries to install i686 on x86_64 system

This is just the list of packages yum wants to install. It's not the
list of _why_ it wants to install them. Try:
% echo n | sudo yum -d3 upgrade > /tmp/yum.log
The resulting yum.log should have enough information to figure it out.
