I suspect that was the case, but it would have still been nice to be able
to quickly redo something custom from the old init or upstart. While
rc.local would be usable, the process was intended to start earlier and
doesn't exit. I think trying to background it from rc.local was one of
the issues I ran up against.

I am not so concerned about what the solution is, but about how to easily
figure out what the solution should be.
