Desktop spin Beta RC3 validation passes provisionally

Quick note - per my testing, Beta RC3 desktop spin passes the validation
testing for Beta, except for one issue:

I recommend we except this one for Beta; it's a long-standing issue in
gmixer for which there's unlikely to be a quick fix, and it doesn't
massively affect the functionality of the spin. I think it ought to be
fixed for Final though, either by actually fixing the bug in gmixer or
by adopting another mixer applet (perhaps Xfce's?)

Great job, especially thanks to Christoph for the fast fixes for Beta
blocker issues even though he was busy with FUDCon :)

testing from others to confirm is still welcome! I'm not always right =)
