Why is my login to the GNOME session so slow in F14?

Does anybody see this too?

Login in to a GNOME desktop is *very* slow:

1. After having entered the passwd, the arrow mouse pointer still is
seen at the desktop for about 4-5 secs
2. Then the mouse pointer changes to rotating circle
3. This remains for about 5 secs
4. The user specific desktop appears so I'm logged in

Even logout:

5. Logging out takes about 5-6 secs until the GDM greeter re-appears

Even a fresh created user has these problems (with the standard startup
apps).

Remark: logging in into a xfce4 session is much more faster (the desktop
appears almost immediately after having entered the login passwd
