USB drive doesn't mount on start-up

If while running Gnome I plug in a USB drive, it gets
automatically mounted on /media/WhatEver.

If the USB drive is plugged in when I boot the computer
and log in, it does not get mounted.

This is mildly annoying, though no big deal.  Known issue?
