Nouveau supports 3d these days, though not everything the nVidia drivers
do. As do the radeon drivers (except for the very latest cards). So for most
people things should work reasonably with Fedora's drivers.

Did you have problems with the driver from the RPMFusion project? Those
are the guys that work on making the proprietary drivers easy to install.
Fedora can't include them because the are non-free.
