Correct, but there are much more energy wasting components.

That said, I fail to understand how one can base a DE on GL.

* To provide a "machine is alive indicator".
You might not like it, but others do.

* To provide a "ads"
Classical use case: Display an enterprise's "flying logo" on a booth on 
an exposition or in shops/offices.
You might not want this use-case, but others do.
