How to install some software that requires Python 2.6 and rejects 2.7?

It seems like the author needs to do a major rewrite. :-( too bad because I
really liked scribes.

I wonder if pehaps there's some automated source code migration tool that
translates Gnome2 api calls to equivalent gnome3 as per
http://developer.gnome.org/gtk3/3.3/gtk-migrating-2-to-3.html? :-/

Let's hope he gets to it.
