F17: kernel panic at shutdown

I believe I had that issue when I booted F17 using the F16 kernel. You don't
happen to have updated using the non-supported method (
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Upgrading_Fedora_using_yum ) do you?

Just a theory, though :)
