Let's see what I've tried prior to writing this reply:

I've clicked away the error dialog, then clicked the "Install Updates"
button, and now gpk-update-viewer is using 100% CPU with no visible
progress.

The main window tells "214 updates selected", half of the icons tell
"Cleaning up", "kernel-modules-extra-3.9.0-0.rc8.git0.2.fc19 (64-bit)" and
"kernel-3.9.0-0.rc8.git0.2.fc19 (64-bit)" are stuck at "Removing", and the
rest at "Installing".

I'll need to kill it.
