oversized icons in nautilus

This thread is lacking a bit in clarity as to what symptoms you all are
seeing, and what the circumstances are.

I've seen screenshots that look like nautilus desktop rendering, there
were some references that I can only assume were about app icons (maybe
in the global menu, or maybe in nautilus 'open with' menu, who knows),
then there were some references to using various icon themes.
