Some of the strings are used solely for internal stuff (gtk has a much 
clearer example - a string which indicates left->right or right->left
rendering). Several applications have strings to translate of the form

	"%-8s blah"

and while msgfmt will accept "blah %8s" as valid and it is valid .po it
may break assumptions in the app only documented in comments in the po
file. 

These cases are rare fortunately
