This is a great idea. A good and actively maintained web-based
translation editor is Pootle. And we have a GSoC idea to integrate
Pootle and Transifex together:

  http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SummerCoding/2008/Ideas#tx_pootle

This way Pootle won't substitute our existing workflow but compliment
it, in a way
that translations can get submitted in Pootle and an editor/admin
could push them
seamlessly through Transifex to the upstream repo.

I haven't seen any student applying for it, so if anyone is
interested, have at it!

I've also heard that Drupal's editor is a good one, however I'm not
sure how it could be well integrated with Transifex. Suggestions are
welcome. :-)
