As of the latest and greatest FC13:

    sox -q -t ossdsp /dev/dsp1 -t ossdsp /dev/dsp

works (though it seems to be about a second behind).

    sox -q -t alsa hw:1 -t alsa hw:0

repeats the message:

    sox WARN alsa: over-run

over and over as fast as it can.
