This still happens with libexif-0.6.13-4.0.2.el5_1.1, gimp just Segfaults
opening JPEG images from a Olympus camera.
I've just tested a rebuilt libexif-0.6.16 from RHEL6 and it works fine.
Unfortunately I was unable to find the required patch to make the
libexif-0.6.13 from RHEL5 work.
